David: My name is David. I am a field officer with the Ministry of Emergency Preparedness and Response, and these are the five essentials that I can’t live without when I deploy on an emergency deployment.]

My first item is my sleeping bag and bedding kit. You don’t know when you’re going to sleep, you don’t know where you’re going to sleep, so your ability to turn anywhere into a bed when sleep is needed is essential for every emergency deployment.

My second item is my tablet. Your ability to have an office wherever you go in order to help folks supporting the emergency is very very essential.

My third item is MiFi or any sort of internet device. We carry multiple devices that allow us to be connected at any given time.

My fourth item is a satellite phone. I was in Pikangikum supporting that evacuation, the power went out, the water went out, the internet was out. The only tool that I had to use was this satellite phone.

Meals, Ready-to-Eat is my last item. You throw some water in there, there’s a little heating device, and within a few seconds you have a meal ready for you and it’ll keep you going throughout the day.
